Best Indian Food in the Hamptons
So, I’ve been wanting to get around to writing about this place for quite some time now. This is truly one of my favorites. I don’t know what it is exactly about this place (besides the food obviously) but there’s just something unique about the experience here that I have not ever found in any other restaurant.
The first thing that sticks out is this restaurant’s location. It’s smack in the middle of the Hamptons — Southampton specifically. Now, the Hamptons is a bit of an odd location because quite frankly the only way you end up here is if you meant to. It’s on the farthest tip of the New York Island getting right into where the celebrities ‘apparently’ go to relax. Fortunately, I’ve got a client way the heck out here for work so I make it a point to come to Saaz each and every visit. Saaz is quite frankly the best Indian food in the entire Hamptons. I know, I know. “But Andrew, it’s the only Indian food restaurant in the Hamptons!”. First off, shut up. No one likes a smart ass. Secondly, even if there were others Saaz would still take the cake (or chaat).
When you first walk into Saaz you are greeted with a refreshingly modern decor mixed with a hint of New York beach house. The interior is open, yet crisp and clean. White leather adorns all of the furniture as well, which matches the open concept white quartz bar. You’re almost always going to be greeted by the restaurant’s owner who could not be anymore nice of a man. You can tell by spending just a few minutes speaking to him why the food here is so incredible. He truly has a passion for what he is does and wants his guests to have the best possible experience each and every visit. This passion is infectious and spreads throughout every facet of the restaurant — not only in the cuisine, but the service as well. Whether you’re here for in house fine dining or take out you can fully expect for your experience to be divine. I normally sit at the bar during my visits so we can chat about everything from Indian culture and politics to New York Sports teams. Don’t be shy if you come to visit!
My absolute favorite thing about this restaurant is something completely intangible and immeasurable — the vibe. It doesn’t matter if I am here every week, or haven’t been back in months. Each and every visit you feel like family. I think there is something to be said about a restaurant that can not only provide this feeling, but deliver it consistently.
Now, the most important part of any restaurant — the food.
The food here is absolutely mesmerizing. The real standouts for me personally are the Chicken Korma and Vindalu. These are served with very generous portions as well. They will turn the heat up on the dish upon request. The Korma is made in the traditional style with a yogurt base, mix of spices, nuts and raisins. However, if you’re craving something on the spicier side I would suggest the Vindaloo. The main ingredients in this curry are potato , sweet and sour sauce with vinegar and a blend of hot chilies and spices, therefore it is always on the hotter side. Absolutely delicious.
Since this is the Hamptons they do have quite the selection of seafood as well. Everything from Lobster Tail Masala to Chilean Sea Bass Moilee (both are house specialties). There’s something here for every palate.
The naan is perfectly cooked in available in numerous flavors. The mango lassi is made to absolute perfection. For appetizers you cannot go wrong with the Samosas, Pan Seared Scallops, or Samosa Chaat.
In closing, if your travels ever bring you to the Hamptons, please do yourself and favor and make a trip out to Saaz Indian Cuisine – The Symphony of Spices.
